Samuel Barber, Anders Hillborg, Bjork - Renee Fleming: Distant Light
Renee ~ diva who is humble about her Gift
By: bonnie
Date: 9 Jan 2018
Rating:

Renee Fleming's skill, range, & meticulously perfect pitch when singing, is truly the Queen of whatever she sings. She makes each song into a complete Sonnet.

Our third son met her in Oregon. He is a huge opera fan & was blown away by her natural grace & immediate presence to him as a person. She has no airs.

I think you all know how I'll be rating this album!

Fahir Atakoglu - Fahir's Music: First Of All
M. Kemal Ataturk, founder of modern Turkey, he said;
By: horizon
Date: 29 Dec 2017
Rating:

In 1934, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk wrote the famous words that reached out to the mothers of his former enemies.

“Those heroes that shed their blood
And lost their lives.
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore, rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side
Here in this country of ours,
You, the mothers,
Who sent their sons from far away countries
Wipe away your tears,
Your sons are now lying in our bosom
And are in peace
After having lost their lives on this land they have
Become our sons as well”.

Paul Hindemith, Henri Sauget, Bernd Franke (...) - Modern Trumpet (Ludwig Guttler)
Modern Trumpet...hmmmm
By: bonnie
Date: 17 Dec 2017
Rating:

12+ minutes of existential, barbaric torture of the finest means of communication ever invented: classical music. The players are obviously highly skilled to be able to play such intellectual drivel, but oh the savagery to the trained ear!

Joseph Canteloube - Songs Of The Auvergne
She's just not Anna Moffo
By: bonnie
Date: 15 Jun 2017
Rating:

Unfortunately I've listened to Moffo sing these with her exceptional phrasing, interpretation, and verve. I am not familiar with this soprano, but for me there is no comparison ~

Fahir Atakoglu - Fahir's Music: First Of All
Clear well played. Picturesque, movie-like.
By: Haino
Date: 3 May 2017
Rating:

I like the quality of the musicians and the composer.

To me it sounds indeed like a soundtrack of a movie telling of struggle,
battle, happiness and clear winning end.

I like the sounds. If it had a picture it would be nice on SST too,
in my opinion. :)

Haino.

Philip Glass - Solo Piano
Glass ~ Mad Rush
By: bonnie
Date: 10 Oct 2014
Rating:

I love Philip Glass's "The Light" and many of the other compositions; however, this piano piece is repetitious in a way which becomes dull to the ears, and then, simple dull!

Bernard de Ventadorn, Anonyme, Troubadour Marcabru (...) - Danza, danses medievales (Millenarium)
Medieval Dances
By: bonnie
Date: 29 Sep 2014
Rating:

This album is the perfect example of "Perfect Discipline equals Perfect Spontaneity" ~ Each number is carefully wrought and completely delightful. The rhythms are contagious; one must get up, dance, and clap!

Elliott Carter - Carter: Symphony No. 1, Piano Concerto (Nashville SO, Kenneth Schermerhorn)
Elliott Carter ~ genius or mad man; take your choice
By: bonnie
Date: 28 Jul 2014
Rating:

This resembles a mind scattered around in many pieces, quite randomly. Carter has written a few intelligible works. This is not among them, to my ears.

Dmitri Shostakovich - Shostakovich: Complete Concertos
Super cd here!
By: bonnie
Date: 16 Jul 2014
Rating:

This showcase of our Russian composers/conductors/pianists is outstanding and brilliantly interpreted! Get ready to get up and MOVE, dance, clap, whatever works for you! I laugh when I listen for the sheer joy of these masterpieces.

Johann Sebastian Bach - Bach: Six Suites for Solo Cello (Sergei Istomin)
Background noise on the recording
By: SirSibs
Date: 27 May 2014
Rating:

Some of the recording have background noise. You can hear tapping and page turning. It is probably not too noticeable unless you are listening on headphones.
