Max Bruch, Edouard Lalo - Bruch: Scottish Fantasy; Lalo: Symphonie espagnole (Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Vernon Handley)
Schottische Synfonie
By: Max20
Date: 24 Jun 2013

I have been to Scotland and found the atmosphere great. Certainly not every day alike. But the music on this CD of fracture expresses joy and love for Scotland. A bit of melancholy and sadness.
Everything what life is. Listening and enjoyment are close to each other.
Recommended.

Frederic Rzewski - Rzewski: The People United Will Never Be Defeated (Ralph van Raat)
The People United Will Never Be Defeated

Date: 31 May 2013

The abstract presentation of this music is not listenable, but I was unable to cast my vote as that. There is no discernible message or theme, except possibly during the last seven minutes of it.

The real difficulty is that with so much music in the queue which really should be heard as one segment of at least twenty minutes ~ many are just sixty seconds or two and a half minutes. Composers don't write their music for these divisions, but Rzewski could use several, in my view.

Joseph Livingstone - Physical Overtures
Physical Overtures by Joseph Livingston

The very first piece, " A Certain Era" is a perfect duet between the orchestra and the violin solo. This collaboration with Joseph Livingstone & the violinist is magical, and calls for more work together as they explore the vastness of our classical universe.

I may have more comments as I listen to each track, getting familiar with Livingstone's style and creativity.

Ensemble Orientis Partibus - Iubilum

A delightful, skillfully executed tour de force which seemingly plays their music the spontaneity which may well have been how it was originally heard. Each one is a gem!

Gavin Bryars & David Lang - Amjad (after Peter Illyich Tchaikovsky)
Amjad no. 12 (Sleeping Beauty no. 8, "Rose Adagio")
By: Max20
Date: 15 Feb 2013

The first notes and a soft "Oh". Only at the second listening, the love of music and the use of the great masters is clear. The performers go very emotional about the issue. It pays to listen to more and more accurate.

Richard Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra (André Previn, Wiener Philharmoniker)
Tod und Verklärung

Today I must admit that I was not a fan of Richard Strauss. The opera Elektra depth nor the friendship with the composer. AFM by the fortuitous but gets another side by chance presented. Said title has deeply touched me in his musicianship and harmony. The presentation by the Vienna Philharmonic enhanced attention. I am amazed at the flexibility of the composer and advise anyone this music perfectly.

Claude Debussy, Claude Debussy , Richard Dubugnon (...) - Beau Soir (Perf. By Janine Jansen & Itamar Golan)
Janine Jansen, magic on a violin !

Wonderfull ! :)

Janine Jansen is the most awarded actual violist in the Dutch community. International fame.

She is with all her heart into music, and has many international colleagues that like to join her.
Her personal style is like very deeply enliving it herself, while performing. Very precisely playing, from the finest tender details up to intensive stormy war-like emotions.

Janine often leads chamber-concerts, has gained a special position in it.
Her collection of experiences is large, not bound to one composer or type of music.

The information on her website speaks for itself :

Thanks Ave ! :)

Haino.

Debussy is an excellent composer. I've heard these songs in different versions. This is exceptionally romantic and adorable.
Highly recommended.

Sergei Rachmaninoff - Rachmaninoff: The Three Symphonies (Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Leonard Slatkin)
Rachmaninoff's Third Symphony
By: bonnie
Date: 1 Nov 2012
Rating:

It is difficult to write a review of such an all time favorite, but the interpretation of Leonard Slatkin is as romantic as the composition and beautifully expresses the sheer delight of feeling that Rachmaninoff probably intended.
