Holst is best known for The Planets, but he did some other lovely orchestral work, as well. I think this CD would be a great way to add more of his work to AFM:

My favorite is St. Paul's Suite, composed for his orchestra at St Paul's Girls' School in London where he taught for many years. We played this in my orchestra when I was in high school, so it will always be dear to my heart. Smile I also adore the Brook Green Suite, and although I'm not familiar with the Double Concerto for 2 Violins, I think the clips sound wonderful. The full playlist is here:

1. Double Concerto for 2 Violins, Op. 49: I. Scherzo: Allegro
2. Double Concerto for 2 Violins, Op. 49: II. Lament: Andante
3. Double Concerto for 2 Violins, Op. 49: III. Variations on a Ground: Allegro - Andante - Allegretto - Tempo I
4. 2 Songs without Words, Op. 22: No. 1. Country Song
5. 2 Songs without Words, Op. 22: No. 2. Marching Song
6. Lyric Movement
7. Brook Green Suite: I. Prelude: Allegretto
8. Brook Green Suite: II. Air: Andante - Poco animato
9. Brook Green Suite: III. Dance: Allegro
10. A Fugal Concerto, Op. 40, No. 2: I. Moderato
11. A Fugal Concerto, Op. 40, No. 2: II. Adagio
12. A Fugal Concerto, Op. 40, No. 2: III. Allegro
13. St Paul's Suite, Op. 29, No. 2: I. Jig: Vivace
14. St Paul's Suite, Op. 29, No. 2: II. Ostinato: Presto
15. St Paul's Suite, Op. 29, No. 2: III. Intermezzo: Andante con moto - Vivace - Tempo I
16. St Paul's Suite, Op. 29, No. 2: IV. Finale, "The Dargason": Allegro

And you can hear the samples at Amazon.com.

Overall, these pieces have a lighter tone than 'The Planets.' They feature playful violin melodies, many based on English folk songs, some very pastoral feeling. I love them! Very Happy

Welcome to adagio greentea!!

I think this would fit in fine. It's Saffron's call but I vote yes.

Yes from me too Smile

I'm listening to the samples right now and I like track 4 and 5 most but the whole album seems so gently and sweet to me. I'm sure I would be glad to be able to request this music.

Thank you for the welcome! I used to be over at SST and then EFM, so I suppose I'm making the rounds. I love this format. Yet another great collection being compiled by Saff & Co. Smile

Thanks to you both for the support on the Holst, too. Cool
