OH Petey ~ I reread our log here; you are always at the front of our chat thoughts, sir. May the nerve block assist mightily ~ may your courage & focus increase ~ & may your inner & outer families (AFM SST, etc) sustain you. Snoopy will love your first hug & all that follows, we pray. ~ bonnie

I sent you a note which didn't "take" here Pete. We are carrying you with much love and concern on AFM SST, etc. We pray that the nerve block is fully successful, and that you will have the Gift of great courage, focus, & stamina. ~ bonnie

I am in Inpatient Rehabilitation. This is the last stop before getting released and being discharged. To be here I needed to get off all IV pain medicine. Now, I was on such for a good while leading up to this, with my phantom pain interfering. The Pain Docs did come with a combo that could that get get me through BUT it was very constipating and that was NO fun. Even now I cringe thinking about it. It was a challenge but Pain Doc and Neurology came up with an idea for me called a Nerve Block.

In this procedure, sympathtic nerve endings would be targeted having to do with the amputated leg and with these chemicals, the hope was for the pain to be changed or removed. They WERE changed (muted) and this has allowed us to lower the dosage of the pain meds and that helps with that other issue etc.

So, here, we are at the inroads of rehab and let me tell you: it's tough. I am at it but it's tough. Simple things are so hard. Basic things, so tough. That is where I am but I am at it. I am not giving up.

 I will be in touch.

 update from Pete - 3/29/16

 Still in hospital.

Recent blood clot setback. Bowel stuff. Really sucks. Had in-grown toenail removed. VERY PAINFUL.

Have been in touch with the Prosthetic company of choice: Scheck and Siress.
LOOK THEM UP IN RELATION TO HEMIPELVECTOMY.

I have great people working on me: here.

 Pete update 4-9-16
They are talking discharging but am not comfortable with it seeing as leg is still mostly numb. I need 50%, at least. Barely have 18%. Also, still have 'foot drop'.

I am taking care of myself for the most part doing chair to bed and toilet transfers etc. Leg is still too weak, however, to do crutches. That was my goal, really and before that, I will not feel right about a discharge.

They are proud of me here, though. I wish I felt the same.

You can do it Pete... I am sure you can! We are proud too here and you will be able to feel proud about yourself pretty soon!

 Heads up Pete !

Well done, all that training !
Here a link to a video of professor Vilanur Ramachandran,
explaining his discoveries and help on phantomn-bodyparts.

I'm sure you will find some relief in it, seeing it solved by him.

 See you buddy !
