Igor Stravinsky - Rhythm Is It!
Le Sacre Du Printemps
By: ifich
Date: 14 Apr 2011

Stravinski for his work:

"The idea of Le Sacre du printemps came to me while I was still composing The Firebird. I had dreamed a scene of pagan ritual in which a chosen sacrificial virgin danced herself to death. This vision was not accompanied by concrete musical ideas, however... "

...

"I saw in imagination a solemn pagan rite: sage elders, seated in a circle, watched a young girl dance herself to death. They were sacrificing her to propriate the god of spring."

...

"...strong and brutal manner, as a point of departure I used the very image evoked by the music. Being a Russian, for me this image took form as the epoch of prehistoric Russia. But bear in mind that the idea came from the music and not the music from the idea."

A great work, performed by the great Berliners.

Enjoy it listening :)

Qunihico Hashimoto - Hashimoto: Symphony No. 1, etc. [Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Ryusuke Numajiri]
Strong Bassoon part
By: Music911
Date: 29 Jan 2011
Rating:

Although unusual for bassoon to be used or even heard in Asian/Japanese music, the bassoon is as prominent here as the oboe, flute and clarinet.

Dietrich Buxtehude - Buxtehude: Organ Music, Volume 3 (Wolfgang Rubsam)
Prelude in F shharp Major
By: Music911
Date: 29 Jan 2011
Rating:

This recording is not a very good representation of Buxtehude. The performance is not paced properly and the organ sounds terrible. Have heard this done better on a modern pipe organ.

Fahir Atakoglu - Fahir's Music: First Of All
In short, this is the story of a nation's war of independence !

Actually, all the songs are written for the love, aren't they?
For the nature, often a lover, sadness or gladness…

Anatolia has been the migration routes of people throughout history,
perhaps is the center of the ancient world, the intersection point
Alexander's knot, Pandora's box, the meeting point of three religions…

This land is fertile, Cybele's territory, Anatolian lands were irrigated with blood and tears at the same time.

Fahir's work describes the situation of Turkey between 1918 to 1923

Ottoman Empire is a sick man of Europe at the beginning of the century, entered the first world war with Germany. Ottoman territories occupied after the World War I ,
"Isgal" (Invasion) tells this period.

Turks six centuries ruled this land, They had no intentions to leave of course.
Great Leader M.kemal Ataturk founded an army that they live in this land were poor but proud people. Notice that The success of this army against the imperialism was the light of the emergence of The Nation States.

Yol (Way), Heyamo, Anadolu (Anatolia), Ana ( Mother ) describes the difficulties of this term and refers to 1919 - 1920. People are going to the army to defend their homeland. Known fact that children will probably be orphaned. The country is under occupation, The management and the economy has collapsed, people need to have a slice of bread.

There were tears, blood and death in between 1920 and 1922, Years of war heats up.
Pencereden kar geliyor (the snow is coming through the window) , Gelmez yola gidiyorum (No turning back this way) Savaş Başlıyor ( the war has begun ), Savaş ( Thewar ), Taarruz( Attack) , All this song symbolizes the stage of the war.

And July 24, 1923 war ended with the Treaty of Lausanne and was founded the modern Republic of Turkey On October 29, 1923 . The song of Cumhuriyet (Republic) describes these events.

Other songs that are related to the development of democracy.

In short, this is the story of a nation's war of independence

P.S: I'm sorry for my english but I just want to tell the spirit of the songs belonging to a foreign culture.

Tony Banks - Seven: A Suite For Orchestra
From Progressive Rock to Classical
By: lastdomino
Date: 5 Dec 2009
Rating:

As a founding member and driving force of the progressive rock band, Genesis, Tony Banks provided exceptionally brilliant and full sounding keyboards as well as the basis of the Genesis sound. In addition to the creative genius within Genesis, Tony has also done a number of solo albums from A Curious Feeling to Strictly Inc.

Finally, in 2004, he released his first classical album giving his listeners a chance for the first time to hear an orchestra playing his unique styling of melody and chords. Many have related his style to being Mahler-like. However, his use of chords with soundtrack like melodies to express feelings, emotions, and beauty still seems completely unique to him.

When listening to this album, try not to think of rocker turned classical because as a progressive musician he has always added a sense of the classics to his music. Instead, listen to Tony Banks, Modern Classical Composer!

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Shawshank Redemption, The (Soundtrack)
That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you!
By: SiriusCreations
Date: 10 Nov 2009
Rating:

Newman made a very nice score. This is also my all time favorite movie adapted from Stephen King's novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.
The score brings you in the right mood.
The whole album can be found on StreamingSoundTracks

Here the only track of that soundtrack is The Marriage Of Figaro.

Of course the scenes when The Marriage Of Figaro is played and afterwards when Andy came back from the hole says (see my signature and title of this little review) gives a good illustration of survival.

So enjoy the very nice version.

Eric Whitacre - Whitacre: Cloudburst (Polyphony & Stephen Layton)
Water night (lyrics)
By: irincou
Date: 3 Nov 2009
Rating:

Night with the eyes of a horse that trembles in the night,
Night with eyes of water in the field asleep
Is in your eyes, a horse that trembles is in
Your eyes of secret water.

Eyes of shadow-water,
Eyes of well-water,
Eyes of dream-water.

Silence and solitude,
Two little animals moon-led,
Drink in your eyes,
Drink in those waters.

If you open your eyes, night opens doors of musk,
The secret kingdom of the water opens
Flowing from the center of the night.

And if you close your eyes
A river, a silent and beautiful current
fills you from within
flows forward, forward
darkens you
Night brings it's wetness to beaches in your soul
