Please consider adding Frank Steiner Jr.'s I Ching Symphony. This is a wonderful piece of music inspired by the ancient Chinese poem I Ching (pronounced ee ching), or "Book of Changes." It is a very listenable fusion of Eastern instruments and Western orchestration, with a harmonious blend of the musical traditions of both.

Track List:
1. Ch'ien (Heaven)
2. K'un (Earth)
3. Chen (Thunder)
4. Sun (Wind)
5. Li (Fire)
6. K'an (Water)
7. Tui (Lake)
8. Ken (Mountain)

There are audio clips and some nice customer reviews on the Amazon site, linked above, for more information.

Don't forget to vote! Very Happy

Mr. Green

I'm a huge fan of the eastern instruments. I do like this one. Smile

I voted 'Sure'.

Like wlz I like Eastern music and I see nothing against placing (from time to time) in the playlist of AFM something different than piano, strings and choirs.

Haino wrote:

I think that number 5 (Li) belongs here, Shocked
and the others sound to me wihin seconds like long waving
atmospheric sounds, known on Entrance.

I like the music. But as trance-styled.
Maybe an idea: Chinese Trance Music ?

I have to disagree with you, Haino. In my opinion it doesn't fit to the EFM playlist at all Rolling Eyes
I think that music there is more 'energetic'.

OK, I've said enough Cool

Thanks for your input, everyone. I had not thought about some of the tracks tending toward 'atmospheric' as Haino pointed out. It has been a while since I have listened to this, so I'm not sure to what extent some of the tracks are more atmospheric (less melodic?), but certainly the 30-second clips on Amazon are not sufficient. I don't own the disc; otherwise I'd listen again and weigh in some more, but I'll see what I can do.

On second thought, I'm reminded of how this albmum really walks the line between 'Classical' and 'New Age' with a leaning toward New Age. This may not be what Saff envisions for the playlist. Don't get me wrong: it's lovely music... it just might not quite be appropriate for AFM. Lots of nature sound effects, synthesized "atmospheric" soundscapes (as our friend Haino suggested), and not as musicologically sophisticated as one might expect for this station. Anyway, it's in the hands of the powers that be now.

I agree. It's in Saff's hands. She is the hands molding the site if you would Wink
