I'm so confused. I am a beginning keyboard player and now have found out keyboards have so many variations.

I ultimately want to switch to a classical piano when I can afford to buy one to replace this keyboard, but how can I if I don't know what to even look for?

You are absolutely right, Ripper. The full number of the keys on the keyboard is 88, but there are some exceptions with less keys.
Coldivar, sorry but I cannot be useful here. I have no idea of keyboards, if it was piano...

Wow, I didn't know there were different kinds of keyboard. I only know the 88 keys.

Some of the big grand pianos even have some more (especially in the sub bass region), but any good Stagepiano with a decent touch response (and proper feeling when played) should have 88 keys. Wink

I realize that navigating the keyboard and piano world can be overwhelming, especially as a beginner. It’s great that you’re aiming to switch to classical piano in the future. In order to make an informed decision, it is important to educate yourself about the different types of keyboards and pianos available.

The number of keys on a musical keyboard can vary depending on the type of instrument. Traditional pianos typically have 88 keys, while many electronic keyboards come in various sizes, ranging from 61 keys to 88 keys.

I totally understand your confusion! Starting out as a keyboardist is a big step, and making the switch to classical piano is a fantastic goal. When you are ready, consider finding a piano with weighted keys to mimic the feel of a piano. Do you have any resources or tips from seasoned musicians that can help guide you on your journey?
