Same piece, different orchestras

Differently from another genres, Classical music, mainly that pre 20th century, was/is played by several orchestras around the world.

For instance, many believe that a 1958 record of 1812 Overture performed by Minnesota Orchestra is the best 1812 record ever. Others, like me, prefer the one performed by Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Zubin Mehta) on a record from the 80s.

So the question: Will we support more than one record of the same composition? Classical listeners use to compare and discuss distinct interpretations of their favorite opus.

(please, if this is not the better forum to discuss this, at this moment, there is no problem to move or remove it)

This is an interesting question. I do not know how the AFM crew think about it.
But I think it must support more of the same composition. Because the interpretations can be so different.

We will definitely be having different works of the same piece. There is far to big a span in what "is" best out there. We already have to two different recording of Holst's The Planets.

Good example Saffron, the Planets is one that I have heard SEVERAL different interpretations of.

I agree that "duplicates" are allowed in the Classical Genere.

There are several "Requiem" pieces by various composers that get different interpretations too. Most are only slight variances by the conductor though...
