I still recall the time when there was only ONE recording of this masterpiece of Western Culture available, but THAT one is the premiere recording of the War Requiem with the composer, Benjamin Britten conducting with his favorite tenor, Peter Pears and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau on deck with magnificent vocal performences. Rostropovich's wife, Galina Vishnevskaya is the soprano. This is clearly a Desert Island disc and AFM does not have it in its roster.
