"Intensely Romantic" while spoken by a guy who sounds like Wolfman Jack! Can't we have sensible voices?

Also, calling this a classical station seems a bit of a misnomer. Lotta modern and new agey stuff mixed in. Let's just say "you get to be the DJ, pick your genre of instrumental music and go for it." Next up, dubstep?

I would prefer we cull the nonclassical stuff out of here and update the promos to sound more pleasant and more accurate.

That is all Smile

These promos have been created at the very start of the station
http://adagio.fm/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=72&highlight=jeff+straub
The voice you hear belongs to Jeff Straub http://www.jeffradio.com/home.htm
as you can probably read in the forum link I sent you above, there have been ideas and concerns
about the mood of the voice but as you can guess money or time is needed for changes like this.
Considering that everybody occupied on this station is volunteering ...and donations and memberships hardly cover
the station's regular expenses, what you suggest has a point (believe me "the voice"
is the first thing that struck me when I joined the station in 2009, but apparently one can get used to it)
but it is kind of labored.
As for the genres ...you are right about certain albums. The station's description though says it clearly
http://adagio.fm/modules.php?name=About_AFM
""timeless classical music from medieval to modern"" which pretty much covers a large range.
It is difficult to say where what we call classical stops being created.
I agree the term "classical" considers a very short period in time. If we stick to the term then medieval music would be banned,
as well as the Renaissance and the 20th century masterpieces.

Just a few thoughts to consider
...we can discuss this further if you like and decide on the albums that do not fit at all (according to our opinion)
and then maybe vote on them. Regarding that mostly members donate albums, request and enjoy listening if other members agree we can tidy up the station a bit.
Thanks for the interest Keith... Smile

Hello KC Smile

You've touched a sensitive string, i think. Wink
Perhaps we should use the double-term " Classical Style" , instead of solemnly " Classical",
thus attending to the typical sounds of, rather than the time-aspects of the first typical productions in passed culture-periods.
Listening to classical styled music, one clearly can recognise certain patterns and sounds, both intrumental and vocal.
When i enjoy listening , those typical aspects are comforting my ears and imagination.
Probably yours too. Smile

In the past we also had a slightly different set of selections on it,
though due to complaints of many listeners the large complete instrumental works were split into their shorter elements.
The complete operas (hours of lengths) were removed, except for some mild single arias.

The main reason was the fact that most listeners that time were listening during job-times.
They complained about certain aspects being irritating while concentrating on their jobs.
The main irritations were caused by the sounds of very expressive high-pitched sopranos,
as well as very long lasting soundpatterns of whole works that were also hindering
other people to hear in time their own favourite melody-requests.
Keep in mind that listeners vary in location, thus might have their sparetime
while others are in the middle of their job-hours.

For those reasons the main person here, Saffron, had changed it into the actual set-up, as from around 2009.
We had some serious opera-fans here, me too, who thought it being a pity.
For the practical usability on this kind of automated station though, as well as for the target-ideas of
the owner Saffron, it seemed the best compromise.

Personally i think there is no reason to ditch some pieces.
Just don't request those you don't appreciate, like we tend to do as well .
Maybe you can offer some of your bright ideas to extend the collection, instead.
( Saffron might give you an "Oskar" for ideas she can cope with. Wink )
You probably might make our ears happy as well ? ! Very Happy

Just my opinion.
Wish you happy eardrums and passionated eyes, while joining us here.
