Have you ever wondered why we like listening to sad music?
Have you ever thought we might benefit from that habit?

This is a very interesting article about it:

One of my sad faves is this one...

Samuel Barber - Concerto for Violin and Orchestra: II. Andante

Irini told me about this - what an excellent idea!

The first 'sad' tune that immediately came into my head was Valse Triste. I then looked down the page and saw that Atticus had chosen precisely that one. Law of Causative Association in action?? Or is the Jungian Collective Unconscious? Amazing...

So now i have to choose something different. Hmm...What about the following:
1) Dvorak's 'Silent Woods'.
2) The Larghetto of Elgar's Second Symphony.
3) Tchaikovsky Sixth Symphony - last movement.
4) Barber - Adagio for Strings.

Heck ~ there are so many ~ I find Delius to be the saddest/happiest ~ he has the knack! For instance, "The Walk to the Paradise Garden" I must say that Debussy never sounds sad to me!

Arvo Part

Te Deum (Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Tonu Kaljuste)
Silouans Song

Arvo Part - Part: Portrait (Angele Dubeau & La Pieta)
Mozart-Adagio

Much of Arvo's work is sad or macabre.

Symphony No. 3 - Henryk Gorecki
The whole symphony is more than sad...
if you are sad you end up depressed...
and then when the symphony is over,
life seems kind and rewarding.
Everything seems better than the mood
of Gorecki's music.

There's not other emotion that I can appreciate more than melancholy. I like and look for music, poetry and philosophy of "Weltschmerz", of world-sorrow.

Cherubini: Requiem No.1
Cherubini: Marche funèbre
Saint-Saëns: Requiem, Op. 54: VIII. Agnus Dei
Bach: Erbarme dich, mein Gott
Durante: Lamentationes Jeremiae Prophetae
Mozart: Requiem
Pergolesi: Stabat Mater dolorosa
Giazotto/Albinoni – Adagio in G Minor
Barber: Adagio for Strings
Wojciech Kilar: The Brides
Clint Mansell - Requiem For A Dream
Rachmaninoff - Galina Vishnevskaya - Vocalise Op.34, No.14

Welcome to the melancholy club Frey!
Most of us love music that corresponds to this feeling!
I must add that your taste is exquisite! Smile

Thanks, irincou! Melancholy club sounds very tempting Smile
I found your site in radiotuna.com, I was looking for a classic radio with more music from the Romanticism, melancholy radio Smile
Thanks for the compliment, but my knowledge of classical composers is very poor, I will learn from you.
