What is your favorite piece for strings? I'm wanting to add to the home library to further inspire my budding cellist daughter.

Personally, I'm crazy about Dvorak's Serenade for Strings, closely followed by Grieg's Holberg Suite and Schubert's Trout Quintet. How about you?

I must admit I am not very original with my preference but my favorite music piece for strings is Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings. Very sad melody... makes me feel so good though!

-) Johann Sebastian Bach - The Cello Suites (e.g. Suite Nr.1)
-) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Divertimento D major KV 136, B flat major KV 137 and F major KV 138
-) Maurice Ravel - String Quartet in F
-) Claude Debussy - String Quartet in G
-) Richard Strauss - Metamorphosen for 23 solo strings
-) Igor Stravinsky - "Apolon Musagette" for string orchestra
-) Franz Schreker - Intermezzo for string orchestra
-) Theodor Berger - Rondino giocoso op.4 for string orchestra
-) Witold Lutoslawski - Preludes & Fugue for 13 solo strings

There's of course a lot more to find and play, just say in which direction your interests go Wink

Well, many that would be considered cliche I guess, so I'll just post this one since it's not that widely known, yet beautiful imo. From the Ragusan (Republic of Ragusa, Dubrovnik today) composer Luka Sorkocevic:
