Wow, I never knew Mendelssohn wrote so much choral music in his short life. I must hear that! (Yes)

The choral works of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847) can be regarded as some of the most important contributions to todays big choir repertoire like Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Wolf, Mahler and many more.

A 10-CD set (which I own too, so I know what I'm talking about) from the dutch label Brilliant Classics contains every work for choir (except Mendelssohn two oratories "Elijah" & "Paulus", they are available on a different 4-CD set by that particular label) written by Mendelssohn in his short but very creative life.
Every cantata, hymn, motet, vesper, magnificat etc. ever written by this genius are on this high quality (and not overly expensive) set.
If you want to get familiar with Mendelssohn choir music (a-cappella, orchestra, + soloists etc.), this set is the best opportunity to do so.
The audio quality is superb, the musical interpretation on an extremely high level.

Performed by the CHAMBER CHOIR OF EUROPE, conducted by Nicol Matt.
Many reknown soloists performing, the orchestral parts being played by the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen.

For more infos (CD descriptions, track lists etc.) take a look here

The obligatory question: What do you think?

I've recently found the bill from the shop I got this compilation from, it cost me only 30€, that's really a cheap price for 10 (ten!) CD's and a very, very, very long running time. Smile

I know it's a late response but the poll option: "Wow, I never knew Mendelssohn wrote so much choral music in his short life. I must hear that!" is what I think about this request,

So I vote Yes too Smile

It will get added. Probably sometime early next year. Right now I am focusing on Holiday music.

Hm, it's been almost 2 years since I posted this. Did it get added or will we have to wait for a long, long time?

After 9 years... I'm happy to inform that I ordered this for adagio.fm. It will be sent in from a seller in Germany so it may take some time...
